Hi All -

This show was mentioned in one of the emails from the band but I've heard nothing about it since. Does anyone know if it's confirmed and what venue it's at?

Why don't you message Jeremy or Carah about it on Facebook? They'll know.

Maybe (both of) you could try posting directly to Facebook as well? I'm sure there are other Texan fans out there who are wondering about a concert too.

You could also just email the band email. Their tour people look at that stuff.

I'll bet, if you email Jeremy, and are sad that it's students only, he might score you a pass somehow. He's done it for others. I mean, he might not be ABLE to, but if he is--if it's possible--he would. It can't hurt to try.

Apparently the Shiny's have realized the concert is students-only and that's why they don't acknowledge it on their websites.

The problem may be that the concert is paid by the students activity fee.  If so, then there may be no physical tickets...you just show your ID at the door.  That occurs to me because it's the only reason I can think that any event promoter would actively discourage ticket sales and I remember my parents telling stories of the free concerts they went to in college.

It appears to be held in Syd Rich gym.  Based on pictures from past events, it hardly looks like overcrowding would be behind the promoter's rejecting non-students.

I sent an email to the activites board basically pointing out that concerts tend to come off better when you don't bar the audience members that likely would be the most into it...you know, band's feeding off audience energy and all that.  I'm not expecting much though.  If the rule is no non-students, red tape will probably win out.  But at least I tried.

Looks like Jeremy-wan is our only hope.
"Thank you for your inquiry about Kangapalooza. Unfortunately, it is for students only and we can't open it to the public because it's paid for by our student activity fee."
Don't you love how they pretended I didn't already know that...as if my actual query wasn't about making a limited exception for a handful of people? Roll Eyes

Anyway, that's what I was expecting.  Most likely, whoever is responsible for answering Campus Activity Board emails is probably not the one doing the organizing and promoting...so what do they care?

Hell, I'd gladly donate a few bucks to get in...

Maybe Jeremy will figure something out and shoot me a return message. I know it's pretty much outta the bands hands tho. I offered to help with load in, merch or even video the show for them...

Clever idea about the roadie bit.
Yeah, I mentioned that there's no reason that the students activity fee should be a stumbling block since we'd likely be willing to pay more than what actually went into the show from their fee, but they didn't care...effectively turning down both money and support.  As they like it.

"Anyway, from what I can tell Kangapalooza is more than a concert...and you know more about that than me, but as for the concert, I think there's some real benefit to not excluding most of those most interested in attending (and STG would probably appreciate it).  We'd gladly pay a ticket-like price for admission (even if the event is free to students)...and based on our presence at the main STG fan forum, we're just a handful, not some huge group."
