so here goes... Is Mikey Mikey's real name? Or is it Michael? Has STG significantly changed the way they play "Waiting" live since 2007 on the SoP tour? It seemed different I thought, but youtube didn't help me discern how. Was Season of Love played during the ~2009 tour in the midwest? I could have sworn I saw them do it live. But now I find that they very rarely played it and I wonder if I'm remembering wrong. I think I saw them both in Missouri and Oklahoma around that time. How about Carah's XXX tatoos? When I first saw it I thought "oh i'm sure her mother loved that addition". Turns out it stands for straight edge (i.e., recreational drug free). So I learned something new. Ironically, along with the obvious porn connection, old cartoons would often label alcahol containers with just a series of Xs, and XXXX is also a name brand beer in Australia. On a related note, does Chad still smoke? He needs to protect that voice (along with all the other reasons, of course). Also, Mikey doesn't drink? I thought Jeremy hinted at it by recently by saying half the group's members didn't drink back before Carah left. Also I thought I read something once where Mikey was said to be sober for years. Though I do remember thinking, doing the math, he must've been not yet 21 when he decided he had such a problem that he'd have to give it up. My memory is real fuzzy on that one though so maybe I'm remembering wrong. Also, I thought long ago I heard that Chad's dad was in ministry (not just his brother). Is that true? I know Jeremy's dad worked at a religious college or something, so that's not what I'm referring to.

Ok, I'll try to answer as much as possible: -As far as I know it's Mikey, but I'm not a 100% sure. -I'll have to listen to some old live vids before I can answer this one. I never noticed anything but then again, it's not one of their most played live songs. -Well, I really don't know, but they have definitely played it live a couple of times after SoP's release. -Yes, the X stands for straight edge, which means no recreational drug/alcohol use. The term straight edge comes from a song with the same name by hardcore punk band Minor Threat from the 1980's. Carah also made a video for the "One Life One Chance" foundation ( http://www.onelifeonechance.com/?p=3922), founded by Toby Morse, singer of the punk band H2O. -I don't know about Chad, but I hope he doesn't . And, yes Jeremy said that in this article: http://shinytoyguns.com/news/shiny-toy-guns-featured-in-variance-magazine/When I read it I was thinking the same thing as you So yeah, I guess Mikey doesn't drink. -No idea, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm pretty sure Mikey's real name is Michael. It's very rare for parents to give their kids nicknames as name-names. My nephews are named Bradley and Thomas, but EVERYONE calls them Brady and Tommy, from the day they were born.

The thing is, I have this memory of seeing it live and really enjoying it...which makes it even more annoying if in fact my memory of that is just imagined. Being a SoP-era song that was duet-ed live with Sisely, it might continue to be a rarity live. If anyone who lives in Oklahoma or Missouri can vouch for having seen SoL played live, especially if you have an idea which date it was, that's all I need to know. I know which shows I've both seen and missed.

Oh, and I thought of something else.
I remember someone on the forums saying Sisely had spent some months supporting various band activities even though it was known (by her and the band) during that time that she was eventually leaving. Does anyone know about when this was? How long before they announced Sisely's departure had they actually known it was going down?
It was Feb. 2011 when they let the fans know. Seems like such a long time ago but it really wasn't (not even a year yet).

On second thought, I guess this makes more sense Oh, and I thought of something else.

Well, I can't give you an exact time span but in the last of couple of months of 2010 Shiny Toy Guns only seemed to be playing Hybridigital shows and working on Mirror Machines. I think they played a few shows with Sisely in those months as well (they even made a song with her voice in it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u27otPSBkGU), but since Sisely was working on some solo stuff as well, rumours started to surface. We didn't know she was gonna leave or that they were talking with Carah but I guess Sisely knew already. I don't know when they started talking to Carah but maybe you can find it in some interview. But I guess it was somewhere between spring and fall of 2010.

From pictures and things like that I have seen, Chad does smoke and is still smoking as far as I know. As far as Mikey drinking, I honestly don't know with that. Half the band members could just be an exaggeration as well, since I'm assuming that Daniel is straight edge too, so 2/5 of the band don't drink...it is just a common expression to say half. But, I could be wrong. As far as Sisely knowing she was not gonna be in the band, from what I remember being said it was kinda like things were falling into place. So it was never a straight away definite thing but more of a possibility at some points, if that makes sense. So I would say she knew for a couple months, but kept it hidden for reasons to do with the big reveal and things like that. I honestly don't remember hearing Season of Love live, granted I saw them in Columbus, Ohio rather than further into the midwest...but I want to say that it was played, but couldn't swear to it. As far as Waiting being played differently, they admitted that back in the day that it was more synth heavy and such (their entire set not just that song) and that it was very difficult and expensive to play all of it like it sounds just like on the album...part of the reason why SoP was different, along with the fact that they were touring with "heavier" bands. So I guess in some cases it could have changed as they were making changes around that time, but honestly I've not noticed.

To be honest, the reason I asked is because, back when I first got into the band, I thought I enjoyed that song live more than I did in SoP era shows. They do the chug, chug guitar thing with the 4/4 beat these days and it's a little plain. But again, maybe they've always done it that way and I just didn't get picky until now I just don't remember for sure. Also, if there's any song that shouldn't be difficult to do like the album, it's Waiting...with its very stripped down production. That song is identical on all 3 versions of WaP. The only song, I think, that that's true for.

In the interview where Jeremy mentions that half the band doesn't drink, he was talking about the time when Daniel wasn't in the band yet though (as he's talking about the time of the split with Carah)

Sisely really didn't drink at that time either. She had mentioned it in an interview, she stuck with Diet Cherry Pepsi. So I suppose Mikey could be that other half. For some reason I thought I had seen him with a drink at a show or something. Either way his decisions are his, and I'm not judging either way.

I remember reading a tweet in the summer/early fall of 2010 that Jeremy and Chad were in Sweden. My guess would be that was about the time things became a bit more solid on the reunion. As for Sicilys last show - if I recall correctly, it was in November 2010.

Mikey has been sober for some time now. He actually called me last year when I was struggling with active addiction and spoke to me for a while about recovery. Jeremy and I also emailed eachother about it. At the time (March 2011) he had been sober for 10 months. I want to say Mikey has 10+ years of sobriety but cannot recall for sure. Mikey is a mentor for recovering addicts/alcoholics, and is a great inspiration. I now have just over 9 months of sobriety and Mikey & Jeremy both are a big reason for me getting into recovery when I did. Mikeys phone call helped save my life. I <3 Them all!

Wow, that's great. So your connection goes well beyond the music. You support them as a fan, and they support you back. (you can have our support too ) And it's really interesting that Jeremy decided to stop too.
