I think I came to know them pretty late
Discovered them in Summer of 2007, fell in love with them in 2008, completely obsessed over them through 2009(like to the point where I wouldn't even hang out with friends anymore, because I'd just stay in my room listening to Shinys, or talking to myself about SHinys), and now started off 2010 with posting the "Shiny Toy Guns - Major Tom OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO Lincoln MKZ Car Commercial song" video which currently has 12,143 views... not to brag or anything. *ahem ahem*

p.s., it's even on their website Grin

Well, to be fair, any fan can critique something they like. It's part of loving the band. Sometimes, you just don't like one thing. Sometimes you aren't happy with the band. But ultimately, you love them and will always love them.

Or not. But that's how it is for me.

Honestly, I'm surprised it hasn't been deleted off of youtube yet.. Since you're not an official channel and all.

My best friend introduced me to them in late '06/early '07. He showed me the video for You Are The One on Youtube and I immediately fell in love. I started producing back in January of '06, and my style was very, very similar to STG's. So, I started researching other songs. The love grew. Le Disko? Amazing. Starts With One? Awesome. Chemisty of a Car Crash? Just hit me now! They became my favorite band.

When they announced that Carah was kicked, in '08, the love slipped, a little. I personally was not a fan of Sisely. She has a good voice, but it doesn't suit STG/Duets with Chad. I enjoyed SoP because I had respect for the band, but they were not #1 for me anymore..

And now it's 2k11. Carah has returned. And we have a fifth member. So, guess what? They're #1 again. I can't wait for III.

I just noticed that I haven't properly contributed to this thread. So here it goes.

I discovered them back in 2006... 2007. Something like that. There was some actress I used to chat with over Myspace (Kirsten Prout anyone?) and one day I went on her page and heard Le Disko playing on her music player. The song rocked my ****ing world and I immediately started looking up everything that was Shiny Toy Guns related.

Then I found You Are The One... Rainy Monday... Stripped.

My head couldn't take it. Soon after I went to California for the Star Wars Celebration (shut up). While I was there, I found We Are Pilots in some epic-balls music store. I bought my first STG album in Los Angeles (or somewhere near LA... I can't remember).

The album was inspiring and had a huge impact on me. Shortly after I decided it was time to come out of the closet. And so I switched my Myspace orientation tab over to "gay" while making the song We Are Pilots my page theme.

I woke up the next day to a thousand messages from friends and family.

Things were pretty awkward for a while. And I lost most of my friends at the time. But looking back at it now... I wouldn't want to change a thing.

I owe Shiny Toy Guns my life. They tore down my outer shell and pulled my out of the closet I was living in. And not just with my sexuality. I was performing as a different person altogether. If I were still like that, I'd openly hate on Lady Gaga while secretly loving everything about her. And that's not how one should live.

This is why Shiny Toy Guns will always be my favorite band. Like I said, I owe them the life they gave me.

So yeah, the big moment when Carah removed her mask and there stood my heroes together again...  It was just intense. Very very intense.

I didn't know that. Really cool. I feel closer to you, friend. I'm pretty glad I know the openly gay Matt. Thanks Shinies! Wink

I've commented in here before, but I feel inspired by Matt to tell the whole story. So, I've removed that comment and replacing it with this one.

I discovered them, if you can really call it that, in late 2005 during my university's winter break. I don't remember the song, I just knew I loved it. Before I made the time to look them up, break ended and I went back to engineering classes. I forgot about them (which is really standard of me and new bands). About a year later (late '06), my boyfriend mailed me a copied CD of We Are Pilots with Weather Girl and Stripped tacked onto the disc. I quickly realized that this was the band from before and I promptly fell in love. I also ended up going out and buying my own copy of the album because the copied disc wouldn't burn to my computer which I found frustrating.

Shiny Toy Guns and We Are Pilots are special to me because they helped me get through being in a long distance relationship. I have a tendency to attach special songs to time periods and memories in my life, so it was pretty easy for songs like You Are The One and Rainy Monday to remind us of each other. It's totally cheesy, I know, but it helped.

My, uh, extreme love affair (or maybe obsession) with STG really began in August 2009 when I moved to Texas. I graduated and got a job...and then chose to make my relationship even longer distance (we were now 10 hours apart instead of 3 1/2). That was a really tough thing for me to handle. In fact, I didn't handle it...this forum and STG's music is the only thing that pulled me through those first four months of Texas. I remember listening to Rocketship for hours; I could only hope that I'd be able to "get away, far away, and leave this place". I wanted that rocketship. It was my anthem.

Not to say that I didn't cheer up eventually. I even ended up extending my contract by another 6 months to get really good at my job, so that I could move and work long distance. By August 2010, I moved to Nebraska and here we are. I'm pretty sure I'm stuck with STG. Smiley

I'm not sure if it's my sleep deprivation kicking in both those stories almost made me cry.
