I've got the exact opposite view of covers as him. If you are a musician, why confine yourself to only songs you write? With few exceptions, keep the covers off the albums, sure, but you're in the business because you loved other people's music (or to get chicks, whichever), so do what you love. Jeremy is not the first artist I've heard talk like that. They're afraid covers make them look lame, and I'll agree it gets a bit iffy if you start getting more famous for your covers than your originals. But that in and of itself is not a reason to stop...just stop releasing them as major ad campaigns and compilation album teasers.
If I had a band like them, I'd work up a new live cover every other week, play it live a few times, then move on. For fun. I guarantee you they don't love playing Le Disko for the 565th time. Every artist I've ever heard asked whether they listen to their own music (for pleasure) says "no".

I definitely didn't know why Nate posted "happy mother's day" until the end of the video either. Pretty sweet that we got to see a video that was recorded Sunday, right? At least, I think so.

Maybe he was going for mispronounced French? I like to think that the band probably appreciates interviews done by real fans too. It probably shows though the type of questions asked. |
