Even though this topic is old...I saw/read Jeremey comment in an interview on this. He definitely mentioned the point was to notice how out of place the tree looked in the desert, something that wasn't supposed to be there.  He then vaguely explained more in a quick sentence but my memory is a little hazy about that part.  I believe he mentioned th album's title (or made me think of it), so it roughly had to do something with pioneering something original/unexpected.  Jeremy always takes stuff thoughtfully of course, but I noticed a slight "don't get too caught up in the symbolism though, it's just a cool picture" attitude to his reply.

Oh, that's really cool. I love Jeremy when he interviews; always bringing up something interesting to think about. It's a neat picture too and my favorite album cover.

The thing I love is that as humans we don't know why we pick something.
Jeremy probably took a liking to it through his subconscious. But only says He just likes its looks.  Cheesy

That was totally off.  Cool

Well, I think it resembles rebirth...
In a dry hot desert, is a tree that sybolies the thriveing life of that tree (the music per say) and the feeling, like the season of poison cover, it's gloomy, so the music is gloomy...

If my mom paid attention to that sort of thing, she'd probably remember the tree as well. Lol. In fact, back when I first got into STG, I even pictured the tree for a while when I thought of them...and now, I picture Chad singing in the rainy monday video (huh, I never really noticed that before).

Ohhhhhh.
I love the slang for reviving a dead topic.

I take it upon me to dub this "necroing" a forum term.  Cool

At least I'll use it.  Tongue

This topic's old, but who cares.

I was at the mall last week with my parents and we decided to check out wall decoration mini shop. I was palpitating when I saw a tree that almost resembled the tree from We Are Pilots.

Oh, if I were only with a friend with also loves Shinys! Sorry for the inconvience of not directly showing you the pictures. The files were directly from my camera. I couldn't edit because my dad is installing Windows 7 on the computer I use Photoshop.

Edit: the two pieces together are $100 total. $60 for one. The guys working told me.

I come late on that topic but I've always figured the tree stood there for... inspiration.
In mythology, christian & greek one, the tree embodies the link between Earth/Hell & Heaven, so the human does stand right beside the tree. He is linked by its spirit to higher branches, always wants to grow up and find the light, but still finds its roots in the deep, dark ground.
It has always been a matter of music for me : the tree is the human being (in a desert, I'll join Matt on that point) put at risk. HE just has to seek for light, to seek for a better life - better sounds, here, brighter ones - but is still planted in a deep root darkness.
Shiny Toy Gun's music can be both of a dawn and of a twilight : sometimes really bright and joyful, sometimes as dull as a rainy day, sometimes so sad and dark you're far too deep to feel the light. It's all at the same time, most of the time.
The tree is this link between bass electro sounds and these brighter electro sounds ; rock(s) & bright synths ; Carah's/sisely's shining voice, Chad's deep voice. The band has been through a lot, been though a desert, felt the need and found the tree - the tree of life ? Just like an oasis, giving birth out of nothing.
Life of music. Life IS music. Music IS life.

I definitely agree. Plus I think the tree somewhat symbolizes the band. They came out of nothingness (the dessert) but they're this beautifully grown tree. I love the tree. That's why it is on my body. lol
