I saw some of the cartoon and enjoyed it. So yeah, I'm a bit excited for this movie. Loved the Superbowl tv ad for it. M. Night is one of my favorites.

Did you watch the new trailer? The 2 minute one? It came out today. I posted it in the first entry. It's longer than the Super Bowl trailer.

Yeah. I'm not too crazy about who they have playing Zuko and Katara... But everything else looks really cool.

ZOMG!! I saw this!
I am SOOOO ready for this to come out. I f*cking love Avatar the cartoon. (I still watch it on the nicktoons network. haha)
But. I do agree about the casting. I am so pissed they put Dev Patel as Zuko when he would have been PERFECT(!) as Sokka. Not only does Dev look like Sokka, he plays a character in a show called Skins that even reminds me of Sokka. Ugh. It's like.... so close but so far away. AND THEN, the guy they DO have playing Sokka actually looks just like Zuko to me. And if anyone doesn't know who that guy is, it's Jackson Rathbone who plays Jasper in Twilight. After his acting in Twilight, he would be PERFECT to play the quiet, angry, brooding villain.
And don't even get me started on Katara. Oh god... I mean. Seriously. It's bad enough that the actors they hired to play Katara and Sokka were white as snow, but I could've swore during the Super Bowl commercial when it shows them with the rest of the Water Tribe, they're surrounded by Pacific Islander looking people.
Also, I love M. Night Shyamalan with a hot fiery passion. But... oi. idk. So far the trailer looks like epicness. I hope he doesn't disappoint.

I have to admit ignorance to the back story on this - other than general mythos, but I am very excited to see the movie. I saw the first trailer about a year ago and knew I wanted to see it.

I am ridiculously optimistic about this movie. I have high hopes, but low expectations (if that makes any sense). I think it could be SOOOOO good, but I wouldn't surprised if they failed it.
But I think it'll be good.

PPPSSSSHHH Im waaaay excited. I practically had a nerd-gasm when i watched the trailer. I've been following the news since they were looking for cast members. and listened to all the bickering about "race-bending". Which was a big whining thing about the fact that Katara and Sokka are not white, and the Live action cast is. and that Zuko is Asian, but isnt in the. WHO CARES REALLY? I MEAN THE GUY THAT WROTE THE WHOLE FREAKING CARTOON ACCEPTED THE CAST. LOLOLOLOLOL *rant finished* HEH >.>" Anyhow, I even watch the reruns of the cartoon and my sister get annoyed.

Well, I thought that the fire nation was pretty much Asian. But I don't think that the fact that they're portrayed as white, asian, polyneisan, or black will realy effect the movie. It'll be good/bad because they can/can't act and the script, sets, and effects are good/bad--not because "his skin is the wrong color."

But anyhow, I like they planned to be a trilogy, possibly.

It's not so much a race thing for me... as much as it is that the perfect person to play Sokka was cast as a different character. Dx
but whatever.
Acting is the most important thing. So some changes aren't going to kill it for me. I just hate when actors look nothing like their cartoon counterparts (or how I picture them in my head if it's a book). >_<
I do like the guy they picked to be Aang. Looks-wise, they are very similar (Asian or white, w/e. I really don't think many of the characters in the series even look Asian). I just hope that he's portrayed as the fun loving, playful, carefree Aang I know in the series. So far in the trailer it just looks srs bzns. D:
As for Mike and Brian, I did some research and found out they were executive producers. So that makes me feel better. xP
~~~
P.S. Looking at pics and other sh*t of Nicola Pelts, I feel a lot better about her playing Katara. She definitely has Katara's hair. And I read some stuff about her and Jackson Rathbone and apparently they had amazing chemistry as bro n sis. And for Dev... well, he's a balckbelt in Tae Kwon Do. And maybe it's good that's he's playing a character a lot different than what he was known for on Skins.
P.P.S. I'm still effin excited for this and have been since I found out they were making this a movie back during the summer. Just so everyone knows where I stand. xP
LOL! These comments are too funny, and it's even better that nobody posted their thoughts after WATCHING the "film." When I saw the trailer, I had the same thought: this will be awesome! I've never watched the anime, but this looked like it would be some good science fiction fun. Ha.. 9 out of 10 times, I can judge a film by its trailer, and know if it will be epic, fun, or bad. I didn't do background on this, and the trailer looked like a lot of action fun. So..
I take my cousin and her boyfriend to see it, in 3D. The text "nickelodeon" appears on screen, and I'm like, "OMFG! UGH." I am now aware it will suck. But we stay. The acting is terrible, the cinematography is nothing special, and the "3D" was nowhere to be found! The ONLY 3D in this "film" was a shot of leaves falling down, and I laughed my ass off when the guy in the movie dusted them off his head. LMFAO! But yeah, it's one of the rare movies I'd actually give a 1/10 rating on, and that's stretching it. How about the big wall of water at the end, you know, the tsnuami that approaches the city, and then goes away before it does anything?? The movie was pointless, and now they're going to make 10 more sequels.
Sorry.. I'm ranting now. I would not recommend this "film" to anyone. I was out $40.50 for that trip. And I kept my 3D glasses.
I don't like 3D that much, either. There are two types. Real 3D, and Converted 3D. Real 3D are filmed with actual 3D cameras and look amazing; I think a few to date are Avatar, Step Up: 3D, and Resident Evil: Afterlife. 90% of these other 3D movies are filmed with 2D cameras and converted on the computer to make it "3D." This is why most 3D movies look like crap and give people headaches..
Fun fact.
Oh, I don't think there's any danger of them making the other 3 movies.
But the TV series was really good. It's american anime, so not too weird. And the story is really good and it's really REALLY funny. That's a downside of the movie, I hear (I didn't see it), was that they tried to be super serious. The character of Sokka was such a hilarious guy; he was always joking around and being silly.
You should watch the series. Then you'll see how awesome it could have been.
I forgot about this thread. lmao. Wow. I sounded so excited. :c
Definitely was the biggest disappointment in a movie I ever had. One of the worst I've ever seen. Just. There was not a single redeeming quality about the movie. For real.
But I agree. Watch the actual series. It's so good. *_*
Huh. That explains why Avatar is the only 3D movie I've seen in theaters that I thought looked real enough to enjoy without focusing on how fake everything looked. It also explains why I didn't get motion sickness while watching the flying scenes. That was a fun fact.
