I became a fan Summer'07.  I don't remember them calling themselves "Shinys" back then.  These days they sign myspace posts with that nick, but I can remember reading an old school interview where the guy literally asked them what they like to be called that's shorter than Shiny Toy Guns and they said STG instead.   So was Yo Gabba Gabba actually responsible for the moniker (when they eliminated the "guns" reference since the show is geared towards tykes)?

Yes, I love him. Can't help it. Don't want to.

That's an interesting question.  Personally, I have a ridiculously girlie habit of adding "-y" to things and using them as adjectives and whatnot, so "Shinys" would be what I called them whether I heard someone else do it or not.  And, honestly, I can't remember if I started using it myself before I heard it elsewhere, or vice versa.

Although, I think your theory about YGG definitely has some merit.  You might be right about that.  But, there is an awful large portion of the STG fan base that knows nothing about that performance.

I started using it when in some random interview somewhere, Jeremy referred to the band as Shiny's--just in passing, as a nickname. I started using it after that.

I agree S7.
YGG was where it was heard.
I think Jer had that in mind.
But what tends to happens is, fans end up calling the band a cool nick and it sticks.
I mean I use both nicks.

But what Cat is saying about the fans not knowing, I agree with that. A great example of a word sticking to a band and fans that dont even know the origin use it.

I dont think YGG was the ones that came up with the nick. I'm sure STG had their hand in deciding the name.

But i got it from YGG.  Grin
