The original thread for Mirror Machines. Keeping it out of News and STG discussion since it's technically not STG. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jeremy Dawson answered a few questions through email about Mirror Machines. I took pieces of his email and have put them into a Q&A format. Here's some of what he said: When can we expect to hear some Mirror Machines songs?"Soon, in a matter of a few weeks, we will have the first 4 MMS songs up on about 18 social networking sites. The remix of "Mercy" is floating around out there, it is the first remix of a MMS tune so far."How long has Mirror Machines been in the works?"We have been working on this project for 10 months now quietly, its almost time to launch it completely. The band is signed to a really future forward indie label called Anomie World."Can you describe the sound of Mirror Machines?"As far as the sound of mirror machines, it does have synthesizers in the music, but the keys are all sort of a late 1970's vibe not layers of electronica like STG is."When asked about the looping track heard on the main site:"The tune on the website is sort of a melodic compilation of some hooks from the song "mercy" using weird old keyboards and stuff. Its not a MMS song, just something Chad made for the website as a background piece."More on Mercy:""mercy" is the official title of the song, and it is the first Mirror Machines song ever started."When I asked about Wolf's melody and how it sounded like Yahel's "Open Your Mind" :"yes, we interpolated the melody from Yahel's "open your mind", and asked him if we could use the melody in "mercy".Here is the interview in which Jeremy and Chad discuss the JUNO-Gi... Which is being used in Mirror Machines. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-6l4NUtWeU#noexternalembedAnd here is the Mercy Mix of the song WOLF. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddoyKe9C_uQ#noexternalembed

First album, with Carah- awesome.
Ditch Carah.
Second album, with Sisely- meh.
Ditch Sisely.
Third Album, Mirror Machines.
Yeah, they just totally gave up now and ditched Shiny Toy Guns.
Why is it suddenly hip to change your band name? Grrr.

No no.. STG is NOT over. Jeremy claims it MAY take a break.
And Sisely claimed she wasn't going anywhere not too long ago.
So we'll see.

I say we all just stay calm and watch. We're still getting our 3rd album, and it appears there will still be music. Everything will be fine.
Mirror Machines is an awesome name, though. Snap.

Honestly I've always known STG was Chad and Jeremy.... So I still count Mirror Machines as STG. I just don't know what's going on with all of this anymore. As long as the next thing they release is good, I'll be placated xD

This may be a good thing. Most bands stay as one solid unit and release the same crap over and over again. I respect Jere and Chad for wanting to switch it up a little. Maybe Mirror Machines will be Hybridigital x100.... Who knows. I've seen some of those shows online and they're incredible. Not exactly the best way to sell albums, but definitely fun. Here is the interview in which he speaks out about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaZo5Ge596Y#noexternalembed

This makes me a little uncomfortable. However, since they've said they're not breaking up, I'm treating this as a side project (like The Postal Service or Blaqk Audio) and not freaking out over this.
I agree with Alli, this new band name sounds awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing what they're about too.

Judging from the interview, it sounds like Mirror Machines is just a new thing and they are still doing Shiny Toy Guns. Of course, it wouldn't shock me if by this time next year or 2 years from now, Shiny Toy Guns had fallen to the wayside.

Makes me think about that rumor that took place a few months ago about Sis leaving.
This news makes me shake.....with confusion.
Hate to say it, but we should have saw this coming when Chad would say in interviews that they had been in like 15 bands before STG.
But *optimistic* MM could sound awesome.

Why would he mention the forum? That would be weird. Unless the interviewer brought it up first, it would super weird if he talked about it out of the blue. If he even reads it. Which I doubt.
(If you DO read the forum, Jeremy, well... I hope you enjoy yourself. Ha!)

Maybe she doesn't come around often because you guys are good mods. There's not much she needs to do around here besides fix the chat (which we don't use that much).

After seeing that second interview, I'm convinced that Sisely isn't involved with Mirror Machines.
I sent Jere a message to confirm my fears (but a response can take a while).
I hope the butt-hurt former fans didn't get to Jeremy.

Would it be so bad if she wasn't part of Mirror Machines, but still part of STG? We don't even know if she doesn't want to be part; maybe one band is enough for her. Besides, what would be the point of making another band with the exact same line up?
